Types of tools we manufacture

Steel stud tools

Steel rule dies are our most common type of die and the most cost-effective solution for die-cutting soft materials. A curved steel rule is mounted in a plywood backing and cuts through the material in the press. We manufacture steel rule dies with rule heights ranging from 23.8 to 50 mm, mounted in 12–18 mm plywood.

Suitable for: Most soft materials — rubber, cellular rubber, plastic film, tape, foam, paper and cardboard. Both full-cut and kiss-cut.

Advantages: Low tooling costs, rapid manufacturing, easy to modify. Suitable for everything from prototype runs to ongoing production.

Click tools (click punches)

Blanking tools are solid steel tools used in blanking presses. They produce a clean cut and offer high repeatability, particularly for thicker and harder materials. Blanking dies are made from tool steel and ground to a precise cutting edge angle.

Suitable for: Thicker rubber, leather, cellular rubber, felt and materials where the steel blade does not provide a sufficiently clean cut.

Advantages: Long service life, excellent repeatability, withstands high punching forces.

Punching tool

Flat-bed punching tools are high-precision, custom-made tools for flat-bed presses. They are manufactured from tool steel and may feature multiple cavities to punch out several parts per press cycle.

Suitable for: Series with high requirements for tolerances and surface finish, multilayer materials, laminates and applications where the positioning of holes and contours must be precise.

Advantages: High precision, capability for multi-cavity moulds, stable production at high volumes.

Kiss-cut tool

Kiss-cut tools are designed to cut through the top layer of material without penetrating the underlying liner (the backing material). The components are supplied on sheets or rolls, ready to be picked up and applied immediately. We manufacture kiss-cut tools as straight-line tools or rotary tools, depending on volume and material.

Suitable for: Self-adhesive materials, thermal pads, adhesive tape components, labels and protective films.

Advantages: Easy integration into the customer’s production line, minimal waste, high-speed batch production.

Rotary die-cutting tool

For very high volumes, we can design and order rotary die-cutting tools that operate with a continuous feed of material from a roll. The material passes between a die roller and a counter-roller, ensuring high speed and consistent quality.

Suitable for: Large volumes of thin materials on rolls — foils, films, tapes, labels.

Advantages: Very high production speed, consistent quality, low unit cost when produced in large volumes.

Tool materials and specifications

The choice of material for the tool depends on the application, volume and the level of precision required. Here are the most common materials we work with:

Steel stud (steel joist): Curved steel strip in carbon steel or stainless steel. Available in various heights (23.8–50 mm) and thicknesses (0.71–1.07 mm). Edge hardness typically 40–50 HRC. Used in steel line tools — the most cost-effective option for soft materials.

Tool steel: Hardened tool steel for click punches and flat punch tools. Offers a longer service life and withstands higher punching forces. Edge hardness typically 55–62 HRC depending on the steel grade. Used when standard steel is not sufficient — thicker materials, harder rubber grades or high-volume production runs.

Plywood base: 12–18 mm birch plywood used as a backing for steel-edged tools. Cut using laser or CNC for precise contour positioning.

Rubber pusher: Fitted around the steel strip, it pushes the material out of the die after punching. Its hardness and position are adjusted to suit the thickness and stiffness of the material.

How it works — from drawing to finished tool

1. Review of supporting documentation The process begins with a review of your drawing (DXF, PDF or CAD), material specifications and estimated volume. Don’t have a finished drawing? We can help create one based on a sketch, a sample or a functional description.

2. Design and choice of materials We select the type of tool (steel line, click, flat punch or rotary tool) and design the tool based on geometry, materials and production requirements. All of this takes place at our own premises in Bromma.

3. Manufacturing The tool is manufactured using laser cutting, CNC machining and grinding in our own workshop. The steel strips are bent and assembled, the backing plates are cut to size and the rubber inserts are fitted.

4. Test drive and measurement report We test the tool under production-like conditions and check dimensions, cut quality and repeatability. Where necessary, we compile measurement reports and verify Cp/Cpk.

5. Delivery and commissioning The finished tool is delivered ready to use — either for stamping in our production or for use in your own press.

6. Maintenance and renovation We offer a full range of maintenance services: grinding, replacement of steel lines, repair of bases and refurbishment of worn tools. This extends the service life of the tools and reduces the overall cost of ownership.
